RATIONALE:
The Board recognises a responsibility to ensure that students have adequate access to appropriate guidance and support systems. Cambridge International College is a signatory to the Code of Practice of the New Zealand Ministry of Education.

PURPOSES:
☼To provide advice and guidance as required for Cambridge International College students.
☼To acknowledge that Cambridge International College students have special needs as a result of being away from their home and adjusting to a new language and culture.
☼To ensure staff training identifies successful strategies with Cambridge International College students.

GUIDELINES:
☼Teachers will have training to help them identify the needs of individual students.
☼There will be a teacher with special responsibility for pastoral care.
☼There will be liaison with the Chinese community in Hamilton for student support.
☼There will be close communication between Cambridge International College and students and parents.
☼Cambridge International College will promote and foster friendship and leadership within the student body to assist with guidance.

CONCLUSION:
Guidance for students in a support network is a high priority for the school. Happy students are able to learn successfully.

RESPONSIBILITIES:
The Head of the Hostel will be Chinese and have training in meeting the special needs of students adjusting to New Zealand. Staff in the hostel will be sensitive to the needs of students.
